ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of cimetidine on the histopathology and the expression of SOD2, GPX1 gene and protein in low-dose accumulative irradiated Beagle dogs spleen and to investigate the mechanism of cimetidine′s protective effect on low-dose accumulative irradiation. METHODS: Twenty-four male Beagle dogs were divided into six groups: normal control group,model group,positive drug control group and cimetidine groups at the dose of 5.33, 10.67, 21.33 mg•kg-1 respectively. The dogs were irradiated with 60Co-γ-ray at 0.040 8 mGy•min-1 rate for 23 d. Cimitidine was administered intragastrically during irradiation, once a day. Microscope was adopted to observe the pathologic change of spleen and the expression levels of SOD2,GPX1 gene and protein in the spleen tissue of dogs were detected by qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry techniques. RESULTS: Compared with the model group,cimetidine ameliorated the pathological changes and ultrastructure lesions in the spleen of dogs. Also compared with the model group, the levels of SOD2 and GPX1 protein in cimetidine groups at the dose of 5.33, 10.67, 21.33 mg•kg-1 were higher(P<0.05) and the levels of SOD2 and GPX1 mRNA of the three cimetidine groups were increased significantly(P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Cimetidine can reduce the histological damage. Cimetidine can upregulate the expressions of SOD2 and GPX1 gene and protein and it has good protective effect on the antioxidant system injury.

ABSTRACT

Jellyfish stings, a kind of common injuries caused by marine organisms, hurt human health and life greatly since its strong toxicity. The jellyfish stings can cause different reactions ranged from dermatitis, local injury, systemic injury and even death depending on the envenoming species. In recent years, with the development of the navy strategy transformation, the frequency and strength of military training among officers and soldiers were increasing, and the hurt of poisonous organisms from ocean specific environment was also growing, and jellyfish stings has become an increasing threat to navy combatant value. At present the solders know very little about this kind of injury, the preventive and therapeutic drugs are still in their infancy, and the primary medical units are lack of the targeted and standardized preventive and therapeutic drugs and first aid measures. How to improve the methods of treatments for jellyfish stings has been focused on by relevant authorities. The authors have reviewed the research progress in present paper of incidence, clinical symptoms and control measures of jellyfish stings for the purpose of laying a foundation for developing the new preventive and therapeutic drugs against jellyfish stings.

ABSTRACT

To explore the clinical effect of Sanbitang recipe in treatment for the rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with kidney empty and cold-dampness symptom and its safety. A total 168 cases eligible patients were randomly divided into the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) group, the chemical medicine group and the TCM combined with chemical medicine group, with 56 cases in each group. The TCM group was treated with Sanbitang recipe; The chemical medicine group was given methotrexate tablets; And Sanbitang recipe and methotrexate tablets was adopted in the TCM combined with chemical medicine group. A course of treatment was 16 weeks. Health assessment questionnaire (HAQ), disease activity scores 28-joint counts (DAS28), visual analogue scale (VAS), TCM symptom, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), cyclic citrullinated peptides (CCP) and rheumatoid factor (RF) were detected. The efficiencies and incidence of adverse reactions in the three groups were compared. The total effective rate of the TCM combined with chemical medicine group was 92.7%, which was higher than 79.2% of the TCM group and 82.4% of the chemical medicine group (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the TCM group and the chemical medicine group. This suggested that Sanbitang recipe was effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with kidney empty and cold-dampness symptom. After treatment, the scores of HAQ, DAS28, VAS, ESR, CRP, CCP and RF of the TCM combined with chemical medicine group were significantly higher (P<0.05) among the three groups. There was no statistically significant difference between the TCM group and the chemical medicine group. This indicated that Sanbitang recipe could effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with kidney empty and cold-dampness symptom. In terms of efficiency and incidence of adverse reactions, the order from low to high was that the TCM group (3.8%, 2/53)<the TCM combined with chemical medicine group (16.4%, 9/55)<the chemical medicine group (33.9%, 18/53) (P<0.05). Sanbitang recipe is effective in treating RA with kidney empty and cold-dampness symptom, with no obvious difference from methotrexate tablets and a low incidence of adverse reactions. Sanbitang recipe shows a remarkable effect in treating RA with kidney empty and cold-dampness symptom.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate whether a simulated He-O2 saturation dive to 65 msw would affect oxidative balance in humans.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Seven divers participated in a simulated saturation dive to 0.75 MPa (65 msw). 24-h urine samples were collected twice before, twice during, and twice after the dive, then were analyzed for contents of superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), total amino acid (T-AA) and total anti-oxidant capacity (T-AOC). Meanwhile, total urine volume and body weight were measured.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The content of T-AA was higher. (P < 0.05) than the base value in final decompression, but reverse to normal at one week after decompression. There were no changes in contents of SOD, MDA and T-AOC during and after the dive compared with their basic value. Total urine volume was lower (P < 0.05, vs basic value) at first day in chamber, then returned to normal. Body weight gradually increased after compression till the end of decompression (higher than basic value, P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>These data indicate that simulated saturation dive to 65 msw may not induce obvious oxidative damage, but it is necessary to monitor 24-h urine volume and oxidative sress by time in order to prevent from tissue injury.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the chemical constituents in the seeds of Nigella glandulifera.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The chemical constituents were isolated and repeatedly purified on silica gel column. They were identified and structurally elucidated by means of physio-chemical constants and spectral analysis.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>Nine compounds were identified as nigellamose (I), alpha-hederin (II), 3-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->3)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2)-alpha-L-arabinpyranosyl]-hederagenin (III), sucrose (IV), stearic acid (V), 1-O-hexadecanolenin (VI), beta-sitosterol (VII), daucosterol (VIII) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (IX).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>I, II, III, VI, VIII and IX were obtained from the plant for the first time, and I is a new compound.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>The chemical components of essential oil from fruit of Eucalyptus globulus were analyzed by GC-MS.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The essential oil were extracted by steam distillation, then separated by capillary gas chromatography. The amount of the component from essential oil were determined by normalization methods. Chromatographic conditions were: capillary column DB-WAX (0.32 mm x 30 m, 0.25 microm) was used, column temperature: initial temperature at 40 degrees C for 3 min,ramping 5 C x min(-1) to 250 degrees C (holding for 10 min) the detector MS.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>31 component from the fruit of E. globulus were identified, which accounted for over 93.7% of total volatile oil.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The methods is reliable, stabilize and can be applied to identify the volatile oil from the fruit of E. globulus.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the effect of Tripterygium wilfordii polyglycoside (TWP) on level of serum interleukin 2 (IL-2), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) in patients of acute anterior uveitis (AAU).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Patients of AAU were randomly divided into two groups. The treated group (n = 50) was mainly treated with TWP and the control group (n = 50) treated with bimolani. The level of IL-2 and TNF-alpha before and after treatment were determined and compared between the two groups and also compared between the treated group and normal group consisted of 50 healthy subjects.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Levels of IL-2 and TNF-alpha in the treated group before treatment were 1.31 +/- 0.27 micrograms/L and 1.20 +/- 0.65 micrograms/L, and after treatment 1.19 +/- 0.27 micrograms/L and 0.96 +/- 0.54 microgram/L, those in the control group were 1.31 +/- 0.26 micrograms/L and 1.22 +/- 0.66 micrograms/L before treatment and 1.20 +/- 0.27 micrograms/L and 0.98 +/- 0.51 microgram/L after treatment respectively. Comparisons of the two parameters before and after treatment in both groups showed significant difference (P < 0.05 in TWP group and P < 0.01 in bimolani group). The two parameters in both treated groups were all higher than those in the normal group before treatment (P < 0.05), but showed insignificant difference after treatment (P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Abnormal changes of IL-2 and TNF-alpha exist in AAU patients, TWP could suppress both parameters markedly therefore has a reliable effect in treatment of AAU.</p>
